Yan Jun - Lamma Islands Diary (Re-Records CD-R)
A true ambassador of Chinese sound art, Yan Jun has actively established connections in and out of mainland China for well over a decade as curator, critic and artist. His Lamma Islands Diary is a collection of field recordings and found object manipulation from a trip to Hong Kong for the Around Sound Festival earlier this year. A couple of the recordings feature him boldly marching through an area active with frogs, insects and birds, none of whom seem startled by his heavy-footed plod. Other tracks find him mucking about in a cloistered alleyway, fumbling with crumbling pieces of wood. Here, his methods recall the metaphysically alien field recordings of G*Park. In these instances, Yan purposefully situates his body in the landscape, allowing the recordings to witness the ensuing relationship; elsewhere, he quietly stands in awe of the toxic hum from some type of industrial machine winding down.

Two people.
One wooden box.
Forty-eight metal contact points.
This is the basic idea of INTER-FACE.

Harmonic Field, by Arius Blaze and Ben Houston
The wooden box is called Harmonic Field. It is designed and handmade by American sound art device artists, Arius Blaze and Ben Houston of Folktek. No keyboard. No strings. Only forty-eight metal contact points. The performer is required to use his/her body as part of the circuitry to generate sounds.
In each of the INTER-FACE performance, Hong Kong sound artist Sin:Ned will invite different artist to play the Harmonic Field with him. Face to face. With such unique instrumental interface.
Here in Beijing, we have the debut performance of INTER-FACE.
In this debut performance, Yan Jun is invited to play the Harmonic Field with Sin:Ned. With electro-acoustic duo No One Pulse as opening act, Alok and KWC will pair with guest artists Jackson Garland and Vavabond for a duet improvisation.
